New Tales from the Borderlands: Review

This post contains affiliate links.

I love Tales from the Borderlands, I mean the first one. I have played it through too many times to count. I love everything about it, from the music to the story and humor.

I had read all the bad reviews and comments about New Tales from the Borderlands, but of course I had to check it out myself. But I couldn't get it from the library because someone had stolen it. After a very long time I finally decided to request that the library get a new copy, but someone else had beat me to it.

While playing through the first episode I nearly fell asleep. Is this game really that boring? Probably.

Characters

Anu is annoyingly anxious scientist. Octavio is her annoyingly stupid little brother. Fran owns a yogurt shop, and suffers from sweet rage syndrome.

But the best new character is... the sexy intern.

Out of the old characters Rhys is most prominently present. Fiona makes an appearance in the end. And Marcus of course narrates the whole thing.

Robots

And of course there are some robots, which once again are more interesting and entertaining than the humans. But of course they can't be as great as Gortys and Loader Bot in the original game, nor as Claptrap in the main series. No offence, Louie.

Endings

Unlike the original, this new game has missable trophies, and many different endings. I was so pissed that I managed to get a good ending, but not the best one. There's no way I'm gonna play this again, especially when guides dictate every dialogue option, and still people comment that "this didn't work for me".

Animals

Juniper is Paco's little ratch, who helps to find the vault. Unfortunately she can get killed, if the relationships between the playable characters aren't good enough. So that's even more reason to keep choosing friendly conversation options.

The best part: Kicking a skag puppy warrants a death penalty. I loved it!

I get commissions for purchases made through the links in this post, at no cost to you.

Have you gotten over the disappointment of the Borderlands movie yet? Because there's more to come.

Are you tired of Marcus' stories already?

Coming in 2025: Borderlands 4.

In this next installment of the definitive looter shooter, players will assume the role of a legendary Vault Hunter as they blast their way through hordes of enemies in search of new treasures to loot on an all-new planet.

Here's the official announcement teaser trailer:

Borderlands 3 was a disappointment for me, so I'm not so sure about this one.

Borderlands-games are great fun in co-op, but would I play them solo? No. First person shooters are not my thing.

But Borderlands are funny games, especially thanks to my favorite character Claptrap.

Borderlands is an upcoming film by Lionsgate, and its release date is August 9, 2024.

The movie's cast includes Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Kevin Hart as Roland, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis, Florian Munteanu as Krieg, Gina Gershon as Mad Moxxi, Steven Boyer as Scooter, Ryann Redmond as Ellie, Benjamin Byron Davis as Marcus, Charles Babalola as Hammerlock, and Jack Black as the world famous wiseass robot Claptrap.

But where is Handsome Jack?

Here's the movie's official poster.

I have been a big fan of the Borderlands games since the first one. I don't even normally like first person shooters, but the Borderlands games are great fun in co-op. I wouldn't even play them solo.

But Borderlands 3 was a big disappointment. We pre-ordered it, and after that experience decided never to pre-order a game again. Borderlands 3 was missing vertical split screen at launch, and we had to wait a year (!!) to play it.

Currently we are playing Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, and luckily it has been much more fun than the previous title in the series.

Is Queen Butt Stallion dead?

If I had known beforehand what would happen in the game Tiny Tina's Wonderlands I probably wouldn't have wanted to play it in the first place.

What happened has to be the most horrible thing ever in the history of the world, and it caught me by a total surprise.

But I must say that the Borderlands games have a notorious habit of killing off their most beloved characters, and making the fans mad with despair.

Queen Butt Stallion is the bestest and fairest being ever to grace the world, and her fate in Wonderlands is a very shocking scene to witness. The one I wish I had never seen.

I had to immediately go online to check if her death permanent and final. Is there any hope for her resurrection? And to my relief I found out that Butt Stallion will return later in the game.

If the answer would have been no would I have even wanted to finish the game?

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is a great and funny adventure for the fans of the Borderlands series, but if you don't want to see the death scene of your beloved queen Butt Stallion, I don't recomment it. Be forewarned.

EDIT: Here's a video of the ending of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. SPOILERS!!
