You had me at kitty.
Borderlands 4 (affiliate link) lured me in with its cat.
Every good Borderlands game needs a little chaos, and in Borderlands 4, that chaos comes in the form of Trouble, the mysterious feline companion of Vex, one of the game’s four new Vault Hunters.
Choose Vex if you want Trouble
Trouble is much more than an ordinary house cat. He is Vex’s Phase Phamiliar, a large, supernatural cat that she can summon to fight alongside her. Through Vex’s Phase abilities, Trouble can teleport around the battlefield, attack enemies and even transform into a more powerful badass version of himself (Big Trouble).
Visually, Trouble certainly stands out. He is a large, ghostly purple cat with an imposing, almost otherworldly appearance. His design gives him the look of something between a familiar house cat and a supernatural creature, fitting perfectly with Vex’s dark Siren powers. His striking purple appearance and glowing, mystical qualities make him instantly recognizable. His color changes based on Vex's gun's elemental effect.
The relationship between Vex and Trouble is also an important part of Vex’s character. Rather than simply being another weapon in her arsenal, Trouble accompanies her as her loyal familiar. Vex’s Here Comes Trouble skill tree is built around improving and supporting him, giving players who enjoy companion-based gameplay plenty of ways to make the cat more effective in combat.
What makes Trouble especially fun is the contrast between his appearance and his role. He may look like a giant, adorable cat, but he is perfectly capable of tearing through Vex’s enemies. In the chaotic world of Borderlands 4, having a supernatural cat as a deadly combat companion feels completely at home.
Trouble is therefore more than just a cute addition to the game. He is an important part of Vex’s abilities, personality and playstyle, and perhaps the best companion in the Borderlands series.
Can you pet the cat in Borderlands 4?
Yes. Other players can pet Trouble too, not just Vex.
