How to get a cat in Crusader Kings 3?

You can find cats in the most unexpected games, and Crusader Kings 3 (affiliate link) is one of them.

In this game the player's character can get a pet cat, and yes, you can "pet" the cat.

But do you ever actually see the cat? Sadly, no. All this talk about a cat and not a single visual of him.

Here's the cat's full story in screencaps (PS5), but I must warn you: You won't like reading it if you happen to like cute little rodents. Cats are predators after all.

The Kitten

I'm out playing with King Beorhtfrith when he suddenly disappears into the taiga go? I turn in a circle, looking, and suddenly he reappears, holding a small kitten out towards me.

"Kaleva! It's for you!"

As the cat rests in my lap, contently purring, I ponder what should I name him. Something historical? Something alluding to his gray fur? Something to describe the soothing feeling I experience when I scratch him behind the ear?

After a long day of travel the horizon starts to bleed into warm colors. I take a moment to pause, close my eyes, breathe.

"Careful!" my caravan leader Hrani screams, pointing at the wetlands beyond the path we follow. What looks like a small rodent is running into the wild and, after it, a gray figure I easily recognise.

- No, Tapsa! Hrani, follow him!

- Tapsa is smarter that all of us, he'll find the way...

- I'll personally find you, my dear Tapsa!

- Quick! Everyone after him!

 

Travel: There You Are!

It doesn't take much to track the growling and broken twigs to their origin. Tapsa sits over a leaf litter, licking his gray paws from the blood of his victim.

The squirrel is almost unrecognizable, right next to him.

- Hah! I knew you'd be successful! Well done! (You gain Adventurous Pet for 2 years)

- I will never take my eyes off you again.

After this the character died, and with that also the cat disappeared. Ceased to exist. Was the poor cat buried with his owner? Probably.

So, had to revert to an older save to see the rest of the cat's story.

Games I played in 2024 - Playstation wrap-up

To put it mildly, Playstation had some trouble with their annual game wrap-up, it didn't work at first. I had to live in suspense for a couple of days! When the email arrived I said I wouldn't take a shower until this shit works. Well, yeah, I would have been smelly.

The only goal was to get Friday the 13th: The Game as the most played game in its last year, and it did happen. Although in the monthly statistics it was only number one in November.

 

 In 2023 I played for 2182 hours, in 2022 1977 hours. And in 2024 only 1789 hours?!

On the secondary account, Friday was naturally the number one game. In co-op/multiplayer games Playstation is really bad at keeping track of the second player, it has been this way in previous years and it is still so now, there were of course more games actually played.

 

 

I only watched Twitch on 363 days of the year, or so they say. I don't believe it. I definitely watched it every day, both on my computer and on my TV. On my computer, Twitch is one of the first pages I open every day.

 

Is cat game Catly fake or real?

Catly game was announced at The Game Awards with a trailer, and it has already sparked a lot of suspicion and controversy.

 

 

Some accusations include the game trailer being made entirely by AI.

Some people say that the game isn't real at all, and that it will never really exist.

 

 

Catly is an open world game which promises to have both single player and multiplayer. Technically it's supposedly breaking new ground, but no details how have been revealed yet.

But most importantly for cat lovers Catly claims that each cat in the game is unique, and that players can customize their cat in endless ways.

As of yet Catly doesnt't have an official release date, but it's coming in 2025. On the game's Apple Watch page the date is June 1, 2025.

My Time at Sandrock multiplayer PS5 release date!

Christmas comes early for some console players of My Time at Sandrock.

Originally Pathea promised that the multiplayer would arrive to consoles in "summer 2024", but that didn't happen.

But now there's finally a release date of My Time at Sandrock online for PS5 and Switch, and it is December 19, 2024.

 

 

 

So the long wait is over. You can now experience the online mode in cross-play with Xbox, PC, PS5 and Switch players.

Do note that there is no story in online mode, you just build the city.

 

 

And if you ask me it's rather unfortunate that there are no extra trophies for the online mode.

My dream came true.

Originally the original Goat Simulator was only available for PC, and that made me very sad. But then in 2015 it came to PS3, and the price was only 9 euros. And that is a small price to pay for many laughs. 

Since then Goat Simulator has became quite legendary, and there's even a sequel, Goat Simulator 3. That's right, there is NO Goat Simulator 2.

 

What is the goal of Goat Simulator?

 

The word is mayhem. That's what Goat Simulator is all about. It's mayhem in an open world sandbox, and that is exactly my favorite game genre. And the best part is that you can't die in this game. Besides a goat you can also play as a an ostrich and a giraffe. Although I would have preferred cats and cows for example.

 

 

Why is Flappy Goat so hard? 

Flappy Goat is Goat Simulator's infamously difficult minigame. For the trophy The Flapmaster you have to reach 10 points in Flappy Goat. Believe it or not, I actually was able to do it on the PS3-version of the game. Then my spouse promised to do the Flapmaster trophy on PS4. And eight years later he finally managed to do it!

Will there be another sequel to the series, Goat Simulator 4? As of writing this, the answer is unknown.

Heavy Rain game review: Press X to Jason

So praised. So weird. So melancholic.

My biggest problem with Heavy Rain: Move Edition was that my neck couldn't handle playing it. When I played it for the first time in April 2015, I got terrible neck pain and headache for several days. It was just that my body couldn't stand the constant swinging of the controller. After that, I didn't dare to play this game for a long time.

I just don't understand these "movie-like" games where you can hardly play yourself at all. And is Heavy Rain trying to be a Sims game when you have to e.g. take a shower, take a shit and shake a juice can? It makes zero sense, it's just insanely ridiculous. Why not other games like Resident Evil have these stupid things? And just shaking the damn juice was the worst thing for my neck!

It wasn't until the end of the game that I was shocked. It was a real jaw-dropping moment. There are probably 17 possible endings, and of course I got the worst option: All the characters died. I didn't get to save the little boy. :( I killed one of the playable characters on purpose, the others died only because I'm so bad at playing. So who I hated so much that I wanted them dead? Take a wild guess.

 

I thought should I sacrifice my neck and replay the game just to get a better ending? Or even just to be able to rescue the kidnapped child?

 

So after a long break I returned to the game Heavy Rain. Like I said, back then my biggest problem was that my neck couldn't stand playing the Move version of this game. This second time, however, my neck, which was already completely shit, held up surprisingly well. Maybe it's because I didn't shake the juice can this time? It turns out that it's not mandatory in the game at all!

Life felt quite empty and purposeless after for a few days I focused solely on Heavy Rain. I played through the last chapters of the game so many times, because I wanted to see all the possible different endings (there are about 17 of them in the game).

About a million different things annoy me in the game, especially the gaps in the plot. No explanation was given for Ethan's memory lapses, origami, and why he saw people drowning. Why wasn't Ethan held accountable for the murder of the drug dealer he committed? At least you can't claim that he didn't leave evidence of himself at the murder scene... How did Shaun or the other victims survive for days in the cold rainwater without dying of hypothermia? Why was the killer chasing the Kramers?

The killer in Heavy Rain is the private investigator who is investigating the case, Scott Shelby. As a child he had a brother who died by getting stuck to cold water. Their asshole father wouldn't help the poor boy.

Will there ever be L.A. Noire 2?

The answer is of course no. The studio no longer exists. We (I) desperately need more games like LA Noire.

Here are some old musings from my first playthrough of L.A. Noire:
 

I managed to get through the game on a Saturday night. Is that a good way to spend Easter? I would have liked to watch Breaking Bad on Easter, but the DVD box didn't arrive on Thursday, but of course on the next post day, i.e. Tuesday after Easter.

On Saturday night, one street crime was still undone, and it bothered me when I didn't know which Desk it was. In the end, there were two options left, Vice and Arson. I found it on Vice the next day.

I only had 3-4 crime cases left when I accidentally read a big spoiler about the ending of LA Noire. I had already been wondering just how low Cole Phelps can sink? Demotions after demotions. I don't know how upset I would have been if I hadn't known about his death beforehand, because even now it felt bad. And that way of dying was very stupid. The whole damn game for nothing? And if you play through those cases or the game again, then its going towards Cole Phelps' death all the time? Make it make sense.

Well, thinking rationally, wouldn't it just be fair that at the end of all games the playable character would die, when they die quite a lot during the game anyway. Only if you survived the whole game without dying once, then the character could survive at the end, that would be fair. 

However, the stupidest thing about LA Noire is that suddenly, in the last cases, you have to play as a completely different character than before. There was no sense in that game character change. Really annoying and pointless. Took me out of the game, so to speak.

In LA Noire, it's hard to kill people, that is, pedestrians. They almost always manage to avoid the car. The best way to kill them is when the person has already fallen to the ground, for example because they were startled by a madman driving on the sidewalk. ;) On the other hand, in LA Noire, the police won't come after you no matter what you do, so you can cause a mayhem in peace. If only you could. I also had to try to kill my police partner. When I finally managed to do it, it was instant game over of course.

 

Perhaps the funniest coincidence was once when I died while walking towards the door of my own car. Just a small touch from a passing car, and I died. A bit of the same thing, i.e. a mere touch was enough to cause the death of another character later. A bit of a contrast to that was when in one of the cases, while chasing a criminal on foot, some machine completely crushed Phelps into a pancake. I don't really understand those deaths by a light touch, I've been properly hit by a car many times without dying. I just accidentally rammed my partner twice with a fire truck, and he didn't die.

I also managed to drop into the void and die that way. So I found a bug in the game. I went through the house and the next thing the car dropped in a white void until he died and "officer down". Unpleasant, because right then I was going through the city along its edges and I didn't remember where on the map I was going. I was looking for cars at the same time, I always had to go through all the parking lots and cars, for the Auto Fanatic trophy.

That feeling and that moment when you find the last car and you achieve 100% game completion. In the words of Homer Simpson: I am not easily impressed. Wow, a blue car. Sky blue. I was also missing one newspaper for a long time, and it happened to be the very first one. D'oh.

But what to do next? 5 stars from every case? I'm still missing some trophies. I already started getting 47,000 dollars in damage for the Public Menace trophy, they say it's best done by driving the fire truck to the gas station fuel pumps a few times. I already destroyed two of them. I already got more than 32,000 dollars in damage with that other guy once, but I ended the case too quickly. All those destroyed cars for nothing. The second time I started doing the same thing, but the guy got hit by the car and died just then.

 

LA Noire is one of my all time favorite games, and I have played it through countless of times. The above text was from my very first playthrough.

Game review: Life is Strange

This blog post has SPOILERS about the game Life is Strange!

 

At first I didn't understand why I didn't like the game Life is Strange. At the very beginning of the game, it was annoying that you have to play the same boring parts many times. But little did I know, you really have to relive that first school lesson a million times, and the last time even Max commented that this must be hell. But in the end, my dislike for the game was probably because of the fact that I just really didn't want to go back to school to be bullied, and be surrounded by terrible people.

Life is strange tells the story of Max, a high school student, who unexpectedly discovers that she can travel back in time. With her new superpower, Max saves her best friend Chloe from death. Changing the past is always a particularly good idea, isn't it? And time travel is healthy?

 

Who is the murderer in Life is Strange?

The only reason I even wanted to make a short blog post about this game is because of this picture below. Or at least that scene in the last chapter of the game. Photography teacher Mr. Jefferson was the only sympathetic character in the whole game. All the others were mean bitches, or just criminals and lazy losers (Chloe). I don't know what my reaction would have been if I hadn't read the spoilers. Of course I replied to Mr Jefferson that I love him. It would have been wonderful to live in his darkroom forever. "I hope you don't mind needles or duct tape."

 

The endings of Life is Strange

 

In the end I of course sacrificed Chloe, because that person was supposed to die that week. That happened even in other realities. In that second ending/option, how many cities and how many people would Max have had to sacrifice before she would realize that Chloe simply can't, and shouldn't be saved.

Since Life is Strange 1, this series has expanded with many sequels. The latest one, Life Is Strange: Double Exposure, has a release date of October 29, 2024.

My Time at Sandrock: Who to marry?

I promised to write a tell all tale about my three marriages, so here it is. 

It was pretty clear who my favorite bachelors in My Time at Sandrock (affiliate link) are. On my first playthrough I ended up dating five of them at the same time. 

Hey, don't judge me. Before an update you couldn't even make them mad or jealous by kissing your lover right in front of another one. The jealousy only happened if you were caught while on a date with another lover. That's why I rarely dared to go on a date...

 

My carefully chosen five sweethearts can be seen in the image below. They are Qi, Unsuur, Ernest, Fang and Logan.

 

Who did I marry?

From early on it was clear who I wanted to marry: Qi. The nerdy, quirky, socially incompetent scientist. And I did end up marrying him first, although by that time I had other eligible bachelors on my mind. I had made a save before marrying him, and reverted back to that save right after the wedding. So long, goodbye, nice knowing you?

Marrying Fang

 

When it comes to Fang it was a slow burn all right. If you want to marry Fang you first have to go through his medical trials. Befriending X helps too. It takes forever for Fang to even accept your gifts. And when you are finally able to give him the heart knot, he sends it back on the next day. After that he tries to leave town, and you stop him...

There were two reasons why I decided that Fang should be my forever marriage. First was my true love X. Yes, you read that right. When it comes to My Time at Sandrock, Fang's pet bird is the one for me.

Second was the fact that only Fang had original content after marriage, and I wanted to see that special mission. Now with the free romance update and the Love Chronicles DLC even more marriage candidates have post marriage quests.

And there was also a third reason: I didn't want to break Fang's heart. Doing so seems to be the most cruel thing you can do in this game. After everything that he has been through you can't just leave him or reject him. And how he finally dared to open his heart for the player.

 

 

Marrying Logan

 

But soon after marrying Fang I realized that I had made a mistake. I couldn't get Logan out of my mind.

It was not supposed to happen. I was not going to fall for Logan.

Even in real life I had three dreams about Logan. It was as if my subconscious was trying to tell me something.

So I married Logan. In that earlier save where I hadn't married anyone yet. So I didn't break poor Fang's heart.

After all this I realized that the hype was real. Logan (affiliate link) can steal your player, and your heart.

 

 

Next time I'm going to make him my forever marriage.

Why Heidi sends a jealous letter?

I got married three times. Two of these times Heidi sent me an angry letter, and I don't understand why. I was NOT romantically involved with her. I was just her friend. I never once chose a heart option in a dialogue with her. 

Shoulda known you were trouble the second you walked into my life. Guess that one's on me. So long, Heidi.

 

 

She sent me this jealous letter when I married Qi and Fang. But she did not send it when I married Logan.

So should I interpret it this way: Heidi wants Qi and Fang for herself, and is jealous of them. But she does not want Logan...
